Clemson, SC –

What Clemson did well: Amari Rodgers shined as he caught a 40-yard touchdown pass from Kelly Bryant and returned a Furman punt 62 yards. BT Potter booms every kickoff out of the end zone. Greg Huegel looks sharp – nailing his two field goal attempts including tying his career high of 50 yards. Clemson’s defense is dominating the line of scrimmage and preventing any offense between the tackles.

Where Clemson needs improvement: Furman is gaining yardage by moving the ball outside (with rollouts and tosses) and exploiting Clemson’s aggressive defense. Both Kelly Bryant and Trevor Lawrence have been inconsistent, but Trevor Lawrence is throwing the ball better so far. The score looks pretty, but the game looks typical of an opener – both extra energy and extra mistakes are plentiful.

Thoughts: Clemson should pull away with the game later because of their superior depth to Furman. Regardless of the score, Clemson’s coaches will have lots of teachable moments for film review and points of correction before their trip to College Station.
