Clemson returns to Death Valley for its first home
game of conference play on Saturday, Sept. 29 when
the Tigers play host to the Syracuse Orange. Kickoff
from Memorial Stadium is scheduled for noon ET.
Last week, Clemson opened ACC play with a 49-21
road win against Georgia Tech. The victory was a team
win in nearly every conceivable sense of the term, as
all 72 players that dressed earned playing time in the
contest.
On offense, Clemson’s balance was on display, as
Clemson both rushed and passed for more than 200
yards on the day. The Tigers averaged 7.3 yards per play
and have now averaged 7.0 or more yards per play in
four straight games for the first time in records available
dating back to 1938.
Defensively, the Tigers held Georgia Tech’s offense to
146 rushing yards, 247 yards below the Yellow Jackets’
FBS-leading 393-yard average entering the contest.
Clemson enters this week ranked No. 4 in the country
in total defense (251.8 yards per game) and ranks in
the Top 20 in passing defense (No. 8, 143.8), rushing
defense (No. 18, 103.5) and scoring defense (No. 16,
15.3 points per game).
Saturday’s game has been designated as Hall of Fame
Day, as the Clemson University Block C Club will induct
10 members into the school’s athletic Hall of Fame.
The organization has honored former student-athletes,
coaches and administrators since 1973 when Frank
Howard, Banks McFadden, Joe Blalock, Fred Cone,
and Billy O’Dell were inducted as charter members.
